VALPOI: Police have registered a case against a scooter rider involved in a fatal accident at Wadakade, Honda, in Sattari taluka on Friday night.
According to Valpoi Police, the case (Cr. No. 59/2025) has been registered under Sections 106 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Sections 134A and 134B of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The accident occurred on October 10 at around 9:10 p.m. near Surkraft Recycling Pvt. Ltd., Wadakade, Honda. The accused, identified as Sainath Gawade, a resident of Sonshi, Honda, was riding an Activa scooter (GA-04-K-6298) in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Valpoi towards Honda. Police said that Gawade allegedly went to the extreme right side of the road and collided head-on with an oncoming Tata Intra pickup (GA-08-Z-0520).
As a result of the collision, the pillion rider, Nagraj Bandhiwadar, a resident of Wadakade, Honda, sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed while undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim.
Police added that the accused rider fled from the spot without informing authorities or providing assistance to the injured. He was later traced and issued a notice as part of the ongoing investigation.
