Ponda: A fatal road accident claimed the life of a scooter rider near the Bhoma Adcona Village Panchayat area in Ponda on the night of January 4, 2026.
According to a state complaint filed by HC 5407 Ritesh Rane of Mardol Police Station, the incident occurred at around 9.00 pm when the accused rider, Vishwajit Gaude, a resident of Kundai, Ponda, was riding a Hero Splendor motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner. Police stated that the accused endangered human life by failing to exercise proper care and caution while proceeding from Banastari towards Kundai.
When the motorcycle reached near the Bhoma Adcona Village Panchayat, it allegedly collided with an oncoming Vespa scooter that was travelling from Kundai towards Banastari. As a result of the collision, the scooter rider, Mukund Sarnaik, a resident of Madkai, Ponda, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama and the deceased’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “head injury as a result of blunt force impact.” Viscera samples have been preserved for toxicology examination. The body was later handed over to the family members for final rites.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Nitesh Kankonkar of Mardol Police Station.
