BAMBOLIM: One of the five survivors of the Birch nightclub fire, 32-year-old Atish Mehta, was released from Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Monday after showing steady recovery. Mehta had been admitted with approximately 12% burn injuries.
Health Secretary Yatindra Maralkar informed that the remaining four patients being treated in the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit are also responding well to medical care. Among them, Amit Kumar, Clinton Prasad, and Rahul Rai have suffered 12–15% burns, while 20-year-old Tanishqa Chaurasian remains the most severely injured with 29% burns. Doctors continue to monitor all four patients closely.
Maralkar added that post-mortem examinations for six victims are still pending, awaiting completion of identification formalities by family members. The process will begin once relatives arrive and confirm identities.
The update brings a small measure of relief amid the continuing fallout of the tragic fire that claimed 25 lives.
