PANAJI: Convict Vijay Biradar was given a 20-year severe jail sentence by the Children’s Court in Panaji for the 2015 rape of a 13-month-old infant. The infant had been abducted and sexually raped by Biradar, who was 19 at the time of the crime, in his father’s car.
Her father filed a report with the Ponda police after the child’s injuries and cries raised suspicions. On October 31, 2015, the accused was taken into custody by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudesh Naik, who was then in charge of the Ponda police station. On January 25, 2016, he filed a charge sheet against him.
Sections 363 (kidnapping), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), Section 8(2) of the Goa Children’s Act, and Section 4 of the POCSO Act were the charges against him.
Saee Prabhudessai, the president of the Children’s Court, found him guilty and gave him a 20-year severe prison sentence. In addition, he must pay a fine of Rs 9.50 lakh and face more years of simple jail if he doesn’t comply.
