PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that one lane for traffic coming from Merces circle proceeding towards of Mapusa of Atal Setu will be opened today to ease traffic congestion.
CM was speaking to the media after inspecting work at Atal Setu on Merces Junction side and Divja circle.
“One lane for traffic coming from Merces circle proceeding towards of Mapusa of Atal Setu will be opened today to ease traffic congestion,” said CM Sawant
He further said that the Panaji arm will also be opened so that traffic bottleneck at Merces circle and KTC circle can be eased for the traffic proceeding from Ponda.
“From April 2, one side of Atal Setu will be opened for vehicular traffic,” he added
Due to closure of Atal Setu bridge in Panaji over Mandovi river, commuters heading towards Maharashtra using two other bridges (adjacent to Atal Setu) are seen stuck in serpentine queues for a long time.
Atal Setu, a 5.1 km long cable-stayed bridge, was opened in February 2019. Presently, asphalting and other works are being carried out on this bridge and hence it has been closed for traffic.
