PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the Goa Assembly that there are just two active mining leases in the state.
In response to a query posed by Yuri Alemao, the Leader of the Opposition, Sawant said that Goa exported 3.78 lakh metric tonnes of iron ore in the 2024–2025 fiscal year.
Monday marked the start of the three-day session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Only two mining leases are now in use in Goa, according to a written response from Sawant, who is in charge of the Mining Portfolio: Block-I of Vedanta Ltd. in Bicholim and Block-V of Fomento Resources Pvt. Ltd. at Advalpal.
“Iron ore exports from Block-V have not yet started. But Block-I shipments have started,” he stated.
In response to a query regarding whether mining firms that have started operations have hired contractors to handle ore, Sawant said that Vedanta Ltd. submitted an application for machinery registration on March 18, 2025, along with a list of registered machinery.
He also mentioned that on March 18, 2025, SKK Infra Solutions Pvt. Ltd. submitted an application to register as a Raising Contractor at Block-I.
