New Delhi: In a major counter-terror operation, India launched Operation Sindoor, executing 24 precision missile strikes across nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing more than 80 terrorists and injuring at least 60 others, senior government sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The retaliatory operation was conducted in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, and targeted camps affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The sites struck include Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bahawalpur, Rawalakot, Chakswari, Bhimber, Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and Chakwal—areas identified by Indian intelligence as long-standing terror hubs.
According to defence sources, those killed include mid- and high-ranking field commanders, trainers, and logistics handlers. The strikes are said to have significantly crippled operational capabilities of the targeted terror outfits.
“Operation Sindoor was not just a military response—it was a calibrated assertion of India’s strategic resolve,” a top government official said. “Through real-time coordination and satellite-based surveillance, we ensured precision targeting with minimal collateral damage.”
The missile strikes, completed within an hour, were synchronised to ensure surprise and avoid detection. UAV footage reportedly confirmed the destruction of the identified facilities, and post-strike assessments revealed key communication nodes and logistics networks were also neutralised.
The Indian government stated that while every effort was made to avoid civilian harm, some collateral damage could not be avoided due to the practice of terror groups embedding facilities in civilian zones. Pakistan, meanwhile, claimed nine civilian deaths, 38 injuries, and two missing persons, allegations that India has not independently verified.
New Delhi clarified that no Pakistani military installations were targeted. “The objective was strictly anti-terror,” officials stated, adding that the decision to strike deep within Pakistani-administered territory marked a strategic departure from previous responses.
Sources said Indian intelligence had compiled extensive evidence of Pakistani Army’s logistical support to terror groups operating from PoK. The strikes were aimed at exposing and dismantling this nexus.
“Each target was selected based on months of surveillance, including intercepted communications and human intelligence, and was vetted to confirm direct links to terror operations,” a defence official added.
The Indian government has reportedly briefed key international partners and received backing for its right to self-defence. While global powers have called for restraint, officials in New Delhi maintain that the operation was necessary to ensure national security and disrupt further terrorist threats.
“Operation Sindoor represents a new level of strategic assertiveness,” an official said. “It is a clear message—India will not remain passive in the face of cross-border terrorism.”
This is one of the most expansive and coordinated anti-terror military actions carried out by India in recent years. The government is expected to release further details in the coming days.
