New Delhi: Operation Sindoor has emerged as a powerful symbol of India’s uncompromising stance against terrorism, with the government describing it as a decisive and calibrated military response that struck at the core of Pakistan based terror infrastructure. In a year end review released on Wednesday, the defence ministry said the operation conveyed a clear global message that India will not tolerate terrorism or its sponsors.
Launched in the early hours of May 7, Operation Sindoor was carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The Indian armed forces conducted precision missile strikes on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, eliminating at least 100 terrorists. The operation led to a brief four day military confrontation between India and Pakistan.
According to the ministry, the mission demonstrated exceptional professionalism, joint operational synergy and decisive leadership. It was described as a defining chapter in India’s military history and a reflection of the nation’s resolve to protect its sovereignty. The strikes were executed simultaneously across land, air and maritime domains, while also leveraging capabilities in cyber, space and information warfare.
The operation highlighted India’s growing strength in intelligence led warfare, advanced technology and integrated command structures. The ministry said it was a clear demonstration of seamless coordination among all arms of the government and validated the country’s push towards self reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbharta vision.
Operation Sindoor also marked a milestone in the use of indigenous technologies, including drone warfare systems, layered air defence and electronic warfare capabilities. While the Indian Air Force carried out aerial strikes, the Army maintained a strong posture along the Line of Control, responding effectively to Pakistani actions. The Indian Navy remained deployed in the northern Arabian Sea, reinforcing India’s readiness to respond across all fronts.
The ministry noted that Pakistan attempted a large scale retaliatory strike on May 10 using missiles, drones and electronic warfare systems, targeting military bases and critical infrastructure. These attempts were completely neutralised by India’s air defence and counter drone systems, with no damage to vital assets.
Following these developments, military operations were halted after communication between the Directors General of Military Operations of both countries. The government reiterated that the action was taken purely in self defence and warned that any future provocation would invite an even stronger response.
The defence ministry said Operation Sindoor reflects India’s evolving counter terrorism policy and underscores the country’s determination to safeguard its unity, integrity and strategic autonomy in an increasingly complex global security environment.
