New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday launched a sharp attack on what it described as “Pakistan apologists” after disclosures indicated extensive diplomatic and lobbying efforts by Islamabad following India’s Operation Sindoor. The party said the documents reveal the scale of pressure Pakistan faced after the Indian military action and undermine claims questioning the impact of the operation.
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya said the disclosures show that Pakistan was rattled by Operation Sindoor, launched by India last year. He claimed that Pakistani diplomats contacted senior officials in the United States nearly 60 times in an effort to prevent escalation and push for a ceasefire. According to him, these engagements included outreach to top figures in the US administration, members of Congress, the Pentagon, and the State Department.
Malviya said the documents demonstrate that Pakistan pursued sustained diplomatic engagement through emails, phone calls, and in person meetings from late April until after the four day military operation concluded. He further alleged that Islamabad spent around Rs 45 crore to hire multiple lobbying firms in order to gain swift access to the US political establishment and influence decision making during the crisis.
Using the disclosures to target domestic critics, the BJP leader accused certain voices in India of doubting the armed forces and the country’s political leadership during the operation. He said the lobbying effort exposed the pressure Pakistan was under and validated the government’s position on the effectiveness of India’s response.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a Pakistan sponsored terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. During the night of May 6 and 7, Indian armed forces carried out coordinated strikes on terror camps across nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
The operation involved the use of precision guided missiles, long range stand off weapons, AI enabled intelligence and targeting systems, and real time surveillance through satellites and drones. An integrated air defence and counter drone network was also deployed. The strikes targeted terror infrastructure linked to groups such as Jaish e Mohammed and Lashkar e Taiba in locations including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli, while avoiding civilian areas and regular military installations.
The BJP said the disclosures reinforce India’s position that the operation had a decisive strategic and diplomatic impact.
