PANAJI: The opposition today grilled the state government on the approved Investment Promotion Board (IPB) Projects.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao raised the issue saying that from 2014 till 2023, the IPB cleared 84 projects and completed only 14 projects.
Alemao also questioned the ruling over the difference in reply saying that in 2024 House reply, 84 projects approve but only 12 completed.
Cornering the government over its failure to maintain unemployment data and providing jobs to Goans, opposition said the State government had adopted a flawed approach in setting targets for job creation and allocating funds for employment generation.
“As per the information provided by the government 50 percent of people employed in the State are non-Goans. The government has neither a policy to create jobs for Goans nor a plan on how to maintain the record of how many youth are provided jobs,” the opposition lamented.
“What happened to the remaining two projects. The government has also do not have any answer of how many Goans are working in Goa’s industries, but there is no such data,” he added.
Minister Mauvin Godinho replied saying that a total of 40% percent Goans are employed and it was a continuous process to get the data.
“Goa-IPB is in process of collecting data of number of Goans and Non-Goans employed in projects approved by Goa IPB,” he added.
Godinho also said that the number of Goans employed is 1511 people in various industries approved by Goa-IPB that have been set up in last five years.
“Further, Goa-IPB does not maintain detailed record of employees,” the Minister said.
