Panaji: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has strongly condemned the opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress and the INDI Alliance, for disrupting proceedings in the Lok Sabha and obstructing the introduction of a significant legislation — The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024.
Calling the conduct of the opposition “extremely shameful and condemnable,” the Chief Minister accused them of revealing their “true character” by creating a ruckus during the introduction of what he termed a long-awaited and historic bill.
“This bill holds immense importance for Goa. Its introduction is a crucial step toward ensuring that our tribal communities receive their rightful share and voice in the democratic process,” Sawant said.
He asserted that the Modi Government, by bringing forth this legislation, had reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the tribal communities of Goa and upholding constitutional justice. He said the opposition’s actions were not just disrespectful to parliamentary procedure, but also a direct insult to the Scheduled Tribe communities of the state.
The bill seeks to readjust Assembly constituencies in Goa to better reflect the representation of Scheduled Tribes, a demand that has seen repeated calls from tribal leaders and activists across the state.
