Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao demanded accountability from the Health Department over the failure to take stringent action against food safety violators in Goa. During the Assembly session, Alemao questioned Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on how many vendors, hotels, and fast food outlets booked by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) over the past two years were actually convicted or blacklisted.
Highlighting the increase in cancer cases, Alemao said there is an urgent need to hold violators accountable and ensure public health is safeguarded. He pressed for tougher penalties and blacklisting of repeat offenders.
MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco also raised concerns, linking the rise in cancer cases to consumption of unhygienic food from roadside stalls. He called for intensified FDA inspections across the state.
In response, Minister Vishwajit Rane admitted that many stalls and eateries were found violating FDA hygiene norms. He assured the House that inspections would continue and necessary action would be taken to protect citizens from health risks associated with unsafe food practices.
