New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asserted that the National Song represents the pride and honour of the nation and must be respected by every citizen. He noted that Vande Mataram was formally recognised by the Constituent Assembly on January 24, 1950, and said that respecting national symbols such as the Tricolour, the national anthem, the national song and revered national figures is a fundamental duty of all Indians.
As the Centre marks 150 years of Vande Mataram, he expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for issuing a notification mandating the singing of the National Song at public functions. He criticised parties whose members refuse to stand for it, calling such actions disrespectful to the Constitution and its framers, including B. R. Ambedkar. He questioned the contradiction of invoking constitutional values while opposing a song recognised by the Constituent Assembly.
Replying to the discussion on the Governor’s address, the chief minister thanked members across parties for their constructive participation, saying the address serves as a constitutional document outlining the government’s achievements and roadmap for the future. He also alleged that certain Opposition members engaged in conduct that undermined the dignity of a constitutional office and disrespected a woman holding high office, urging legislators to uphold decorum.
Highlighting governance reforms since 2017, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh has undergone a significant transformation over the past nine years. He described the state as a convergence of technology, trust and transportation, adding that earlier administrative instability and policy paralysis had been replaced with decisive leadership and clear policy direction.
He credited welfare schemes, job creation efforts, investment promotion and social security initiatives under the BJP’s double engine government for turning Uttar Pradesh into a preferred investment destination and one of the safest states in the country. He stated that the era of criminal patronage had ended and claimed the state has seen no communal riots or curfews since 2017.
Citing large attendance at the Maha Kumbh and Magh Mela, he said the participation of crores of devotees reflected growing public confidence in governance and infrastructure.
