MANDREM: Launching the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Yatra’ from Mandrem, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Sunday said the march aims to safeguard democracy and strengthen the voice of the people of Goa.
Alemao said the yatra received an overwhelming response, reflecting public awareness and discontent with the BJP government’s alleged attempts to weaken democratic institutions.
“This is a united fight to protect constitutional values and build a better social environment,” he stated.
The Opposition also assured locals that concerns raised during the yatra — including CRZ violations, healthcare gaps, and the rising menace of bouncers in the area — will be strongly raised during the monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Alemao was joined by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar, former Law Minister Adv Ramakant Khalap, Amarnath Panajikar, Block President Narayan Redkar, and other party workers and leaders.
The yatra is part of the Congress’ state-wide outreach to highlight what it calls growing authoritarianism under the BJP rule and to address local governance issues affecting Goans.
