PANAJI: An Opposition MLA on Wednesday raised concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly over the continued practice of Private Member Bills being vetted by the Law Department before they are taken up in the House.
The MLA questioned the necessity of such vetting and urged Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar to give a ruling on the matter, stating that the process could affect the independence of legislators in introducing Private Member Bills.
Responding to the concern, Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar said that a member cannot dictate the Chair to issue a ruling. However, he assured the House that he would look into the matter.
