PORVORIM: Disappointed over curtailment of the upcoming winter session, scheduled in January, the opposition MLAs today joined hands to petition Speaker demanding to extend the seating of the House to include Private members day.
Seven opposition MLA’s this evening met at the chamber of leader of opposition to discuss strategy of upcoming assembly sesssion, submit memorandum to speaker.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao said that the state government is only silencing the opposition.
“Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar is acting like the spokesperson of BJP; this is complete murder of democracy to skip the private members day,” he added
The four-day winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly has been summoned from January 16, 2023.
“We will also approach the Governor, if the Speaker denies. If that is not enough, we will approach the Court for justice,” Alemao added
The Opposition during the meeting criticised the State government for the short duration of the session and also for not including the private members’ business day.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that this is for the first time that Private Members Day is removed from the session.
“This is nothing but the government is basically scared of opposition,” he said.
AAP Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas also voiced his opinion on the assembly session saying there were many issues that were raised at the last session which have to be discussed along with new issues.
“This three-day session is of no use. We won’t have the chance to place private members’ bills and resolutions. Bills and resolutions from the last session will also be taken up,’ he added
Venzy also said that issues like the seafarers’ pension scheme, dhirios will not be discussed.
“Now there are more issues that have come up like the sound limit, tourist police, beach cleaning, pending schemes and River Sal issue which need to be debated,” he said.
