PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has urged all Opposition parties to close ranks over the alleged manhandling of RGP MLA Viresh Borkar, terming the incident serious and unacceptable.
Alemao directly held Chief Minister Pramod Sawant responsible, questioning whether such police action could have taken place without the knowledge of the Chief Minister, who also oversees the Home Department.
Condemning the incident, Alemao said an elected representative being allegedly mishandled cannot be justified under any circumstances. He stressed that Borkar had visited the site to represent and protect the interests of his constituents, and any action against him in that capacity raises serious concerns.
The Leader of Opposition added that his stand would have remained the same even if a legislator from the ruling party had faced similar treatment, underscoring that the issue goes beyond party lines.
Reiterating his demand for accountability, Alemao said the matter must be unequivocally condemned and called for collective action from Opposition parties to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
