PANAJI: A joint delegation of Opposition MLAs from the AAP and Congress, along with leaders of the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), met the Governor at Lok Bhavan seeking an urgent special session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to repeal Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said the delegation informed the Governor that the issue is highly sensitive and could potentially lead to law and order concerns if not addressed promptly.
He also highlighted the deteriorating health condition of MLA Viresh Borkar and urged immediate intervention.
AAP MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas warned that Goans would not remain silent if attempts are made to stop development works in constituencies or if cases are filed against individuals involved in the protests against Section 39A.
He said people would take to the streets in large numbers if action is taken against protestors.
The Opposition leaders also submitted a draft Bill prepared by Justice Ferdino Rebello, aimed at protecting Goa’s land by removing provisions related to land conversion.
They expressed appreciation for Justice Rebello’s contribution and said the proposed legislation represents a significant step toward safeguarding Goa’s land resources.
The delegation expressed hope that the State government will seriously consider the proposed Bill and that it would receive unanimous support in the Assembly.
