CANACONA: Opposition leaders at the Canacona leg of the “Goa Against Gundaraj” public meeting have threatened to block National Highway 66 if the main culprit behind the brutal assault on activist Rama Kankonkar is not arrested.
Goa Forward Party (GFP) supremo and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai, along with AAP Goa President Amit Palekar and several activists, criticized the BJP government for allegedly failing to act against those responsible. Sardessai described the attack as part of a wider “Ravan Rajya” in the state and highlighted ongoing issues related to forest rights, the Tribal Sub-Plan, and political reservation.
GFP General Secretary Prashant Naik warned that Canacona locals could prevent vehicles from crossing NH66 if the government does not apprehend the “kingpin” behind the assault. Amit Palekar said, “BJP claims to represent 4 lakh Goenkars but moves around with swords in hand. The time has come to fight against the Goondaism of BJP and throw them out as Zilla elections approach.”
The public meeting also featured speeches from GFP Canacona Block president Datta Gaonkar, Mohandas Lolienkar, and several activists including Peter from Sancoale, Rajan, Shankar Polji, Fidoll Pereira, and Meshu D’Costa.
The opposition’s threat signals escalating political tensions in Canacona as local elections near.
