New Delhi: In a proud salute to the nation’s frontline defenders, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that 1,090 medals will be awarded to officers and personnel from Police, Fire Services, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services this Independence Day.
The honours — which include Gallantry Awards, the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and the Medal for Meritorious Service — will be formally conferred during the August 15 celebrations.
Of the total awards, 233 are Gallantry Medals, 99 are President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 758 are Medals for Meritorious Service.
In the Police category alone, 226 officers will receive Gallantry Medals, 89 will be honoured with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and 635 will be recognised for Meritorious Service. Jammu & Kashmir personnel have bagged the highest number of Gallantry Medals, followed by those from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF).
For the Fire Services, 62 awards will be conferred — six for gallantry, five for distinguished service, and 51 for meritorious service.
The Home Guard & Civil Defence category will see one Gallantry Medal, three President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 41 Meritorious Service Medals being presented.
In Correctional Services, two officers will be awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, while 31 will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service.
The annual awards stand as a tribute to the bravery, dedication, and service of those who safeguard law, order, and public safety across India’s states, union territories, and central armed police forces.
