PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant today confirmed that over 20 Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested for running illegal businesses in Goa.
“Over 20 Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested for running illegal businesses in Goa. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been informed about the arrests and they will be deported back soon. He further said that these people didn’t have Indian addresses,voter ID cards. Sawant said that search is on for more such people.
“So far we have realised that they are operating scrap yards and collecting garbage. They are dealing in scrap material. We are still conducting an inquiry,” he said.
He said that the ATS has been continuously working and in the last two years has detained many foreigners, including Bangladeshis. “Our primary focus is to ensure that illegally overstaying foreigners do not stay in Goa,” Saxena said.
He said that the Central and Goa governments called on the public to come to the beaches to participate in the ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ campaign for 4 hours in 2 days.
“On Sept 17, GoI & Goa govt called on the public to come to the beaches to participate in the ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ campaign for 4hrs in 2 days; everyone came to clean the beaches & formed the largest human chain. PM mentioned this in ‘Mann Ki Baat,” he said
