New Delhi: More than 500 Indian nationals stranded in Qatar have been evacuated to New Delhi and other destinations as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East. The evacuation took place on commercial flights operated by Qatar Airways, helping many citizens return home safely amid growing security concerns in the region.
The Indian mission in Doha confirmed that the passengers travelled on flights departing on March 11. Many of them were transported to major Indian cities including New Delhi and Mumbai. Authorities also announced that two additional flights are scheduled to operate the following day to facilitate further travel for Indian nationals wishing to leave the country.
Officials said emergency assistance has been strengthened to support the Indian community in Qatar. The embassy has activated three round the clock helplines to respond to queries and provide guidance. In addition, the mission has begun prioritising urgent passport services and is processing applications throughout the week. Under the expedited Tatkal service, passports are being issued within one to two days to ensure travellers can depart quickly if required.
The embassy has also urged Indian residents to remain vigilant and strictly follow official advisories issued by authorities. Citizens have been warned not to approach unidentified objects, debris or fragments and to immediately report such items to emergency services.
The evacuation efforts come as regional tensions escalate following military strikes involving United States, Israel and Iran since late February. The worsening security situation has prompted India to step up assistance to its citizens across West Asia.
Separately, 177 Indian nationals were also repatriated from Lebanon on a charter flight that departed from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport. The group was seen off by India’s ambassador to Lebanon, Noor Rahman Sheikh, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in the region.
India has also expressed concern over recent attacks on commercial shipping routes in the Gulf region, particularly incidents affecting vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the growing risks to global trade and maritime security.
