Of these, 20,468 challans were slapped on two-wheeler riders and 48,024 on four-wheeler drivers, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
Minister said the details of violators, including names, addresses, traffic rule breaches and fines collected, are listed in Annexure A of the reply.
Godinho said driving licences are being suspended under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Details of those proposed for three-month suspensions are provided in Annexure B.
Under Section 19(2-A) of the Motor Vehicles Act, licence holders whose permits are suspended must complete a driver refresher training course under the TRUST programme. Only after the three-month suspension and completion of the course are the licences returned.
