VASCO: A 25-year-old overhead water tank at New Vaddem, Vasco, has become a serious safety concern for local residents, with visible signs of structural deterioration threatening nearby homes.
Residents reported that iron rods from the tank structure are now exposed, and the cement plaster is crumbling. “Just a few days ago, a heavy iron rod and chunks of cement fell on our houses. Some parts of the roof were damaged,” said a resident.
Another woman added, “The slabs are broken, and the plaster keeps falling. We live in fear every day. This tank needs immediate repairs before someone gets seriously hurt.”
Raising concerns, Mormugao councillor Sudesh Bhosle said, “The debris falling on nearby houses is a clear warning. The water tank urgently needs repairs, especially with the monsoon around the corner.”
Taking cognizance of the situation, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho visited the site and ordered urgent repair works and a structural stability inspection. “Public safety is paramount. I have directed the authorities to carry out immediate repairs and ensure the tank is structurally sound,” he said.
