PANAJI: A job seeker in Bahrain lost Rs 1.51 lakh over the course of two months after falling for false employment promises in yet another instance of an overseas job scam.
Cell SP for Cybercrime According to Rahul Gupta, the victim was looking for work in December 2024 when she was directed to a person who claimed to be hiring for a Bahraini auto company. She had a recognized acquaintance who made the recommendation.
According to the case records, she was given a Sales Consultant post with a monthly pay of Rs 90,000 and company-provided housing after contacting the alleged recruiter. She went ahead and filled out the application.
The scam started when she was requested to pay Rs 80,000 for a number of employment-related documents, such as a registration bill, LRMA registration certificate, CPR card in the company, insurance, and medical costs.
The scammer requested more money after the initial payment was made in order to book tickets and finalize the visa. She was threatened with losing the money she had already paid when she refused. Gupta revealed the scammers’ method of operation when he said, “She then paid the additional Rs 33,000.”
She was also forced to make additional payments under the guise of delayed processing fees and currency fluctuations. The scammer persuaded her to pay an additional Rs 38,000 by promising to pay half of the outstanding balance.
