PANAJI: Continuing its crackdown on foreigners illegally staying in the State, the Crime Branch arrested a 40-year-old Russian national in Arambol who was allegedly residing in Goa without valid travel documents.
The accused, identified as Evgenii Shelupukho, son of Igor, was traced near a banyan tree at Ravalnath Temple Road, Girkar Waddo, Arambol, during a mid-day search operation conducted by a team led by PI Nitin Halarnkar of the Crime Branch, Ribander.
Police said Shelupukho, who was residing at Nanoskar Wada, Arambol, was found without a passport, visa, or any other valid travel documents, thereby violating provisions of the Foreigners Order, 1948, the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Passport Entry Act, 1920.
He was placed under arrest at 5:40 pm, with Supreme Court guidelines observed, and the Russian Consulate was informed through the FRRO, Panaji.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Foreigners Order, Foreigners Act, and Passport Entry rules. PI Halarnkar is investigating the case under the supervision of DySP Rajesh Kumar and overall supervision of SP Crime Rahul Gupta.
