PANAJI: Oxford Cricket Club Goa suffered a narrow one wicket defeat against Millennium Cricket Academy Sangli in a thrilling league match of the Late Rajan Bhai Angane Under 16 Memorial Cup. The tournament match was played at the Boarding Ground in Malvan and remained closely contested until the final moments.
Batting first, Oxford Cricket Club put up a competitive total of 256 for seven in their allotted 45 overs. The highlight of the innings was a remarkable century by Farhan Shaikh, who came in at number seven and produced an explosive knock of 123 runs from just 77 deliveries. His innings included 17 boundaries and three sixes, providing strong momentum to the Oxford side. Rehan Hubali contributed 21 runs while Tanishq Naik added 19. The Sangli team also conceded 31 extras which helped Oxford build their total.
Chasing the target, Millennium Cricket Academy displayed determination and composure to reach 259 for nine in 45 overs. Captain Viraj Keripale played a key role with a steady 62 run innings that helped guide the chase. Parshwa Gare added 46 runs while Nihal Mulla scored 41 and Kasim Virani contributed 35, keeping the scoreboard moving in a tense contest.
The match eventually went down to the final wicket, with Millennium Cricket Academy managing to cross the target in dramatic fashion. Despite the defeat, Oxford bowlers produced a commendable effort. Farhan Shaikh, Yug Yadav and Tanishq Naik each picked up two wickets, trying to keep their team in the game until the very end.
The exciting finish marked one of the closest matches of the tournament so far. Oxford Cricket Club will now look to bounce back when they take on PCSC Panvel in their next league match scheduled for Wednesday, March 25.
