Srinagar: Pakistani forces opened fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district for a second straight night, targeting civilian areas in the Karnah sector with mortar and shelling attacks, officials confirmed early Thursday.
The unprovoked aggression comes a day after India launched Operation Sindoor, a series of precision missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.
According to officials, the shelling began shortly after midnight and was directed at civilian zones. Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively to the firing, ensuring a strong counteraction.
No casualties have been reported so far, but the situation remains tense. The majority of the residents from the Karnah area had already evacuated to safer locations on Wednesday in anticipation of further cross-border hostilities.
Security forces remain on high alert across the region as tensions between the two nations continue to escalate following India’s targeted strikes. Monitoring and precautionary measures have been intensified in border villages to ensure civilian safety.
