New Delhi: In a fresh development amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Army apprehended a Pakistani national near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The arrest comes shortly after a Pakistani Ranger was detained in Rajasthan, just days following the capture of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable, Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory in April and was taken into custody.
The situation along the border remains volatile, with cross-border firing reported for the 12th consecutive night. Incidents of small-arms fire have been reported in multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army has responded proportionately to each provocation.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has initiated closed-door consultations following Islamabad’s request to address the growing tensions between the two nations.
