Curtorim: Paldem Sports Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fondegal Youth Club to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixoto Memorial 9-a-side Football Tournament. The tournament is being organised by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club and is underway at the St. Alex Church ground in Curtorim.
The match kicked off with high intensity as both teams displayed attacking intent and skill, much to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd. Despite several early opportunities on both ends, it was Paldem SC’s Finley Carvalho who broke the deadlock with a sensational 30-yard strike in the 10th minute, beating the Fondegal goalkeeper with sheer power and precision. Paldem went into the lemon break with a 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Fondegal Youth Club pushing hard for an equaliser. Key players Melwin, Presley Mascarenhas, and Reuben Fernandes created several chances in the 35th, 45th, and 58th minutes respectively. However, Paldem’s backline, marshalled by Diago, Ansley, and Peter, held their ground with discipline and determination, successfully keeping Fondegal at bay till the final whistle.
For his decisive goal and impactful performance, Finley Carvalho of Paldem Sports Club was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Cajie Rodrigues, a member of Agxem Sports Club.
With this win, Paldem SC moves one step closer to tournament glory in what promises to be an exciting quarterfinal round ahead.
