PANAJI: In a major crackdown on illegal fuel operations, Panaji Coastal Security Police seized 800 liters of diesel being stored and transported unlawfully in a canoe and a Bolero pick-up (GA-06-T-5166) near St. Estevem, Akhada, Tiswadi. The operation was carried out during routine patrolling by PI Ajit R. Umarye and his team on the Mandovi river bank.
The diesel, along with the canoe and the vehicle, has an estimated value of Rs. 10 lakh and was seized under official panchanama. Five accused persons were arrested in connection with the case: Ajay Sawant (St. Estevem, Akhada), Siddan Gauda (Zuarinagar, Murmagao), Hakim A. Khan (Vasco-Da-Gama), Gopal Naik (St. Estevem, Akhada), and Guddu Rajbhar (Uttar Pradesh).
The operation involved ASI Carlos F. Pontes, HC Suryakant Bordekar, HC Liladhar N. Gaude, HC Rajinikant Gaude, PC Laximikant Kauthankar, ASI Driver Milind Sawant, and SI Rajinikant Phadte, and was conducted under the overall supervision of SP Coastal, Shri Raju Raut Desai. Police have stated that this drive is part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal fuel trafficking in the Mandovi river area.
