Panaji: Panaji Police have arrested an interstate fraudster involved in multiple cheating cases and recovered gold jewellery worth ₹1,41,157.
According to police, Tejas Salkar, proprietor of Aurum Jewels at Kamat Centre, Panaji Market, lodged a complaint in the early hours of August 12, stating that on the previous afternoon, the accused, identified as Mirza Sheraz Alibaigh (38), an orthopaedic surgeon from Asif Nagar, Hyderabad, purchased a gold chain, mangalsutra, Ganesh locket, a pair of earrings, and another gold locket, and claimed to have paid via RTGS. He allegedly showed a fake payment screenshot and walked away with the ornaments.
A case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 was registered. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused on the morning of August 12 and recovered all stolen jewellery.
Investigations revealed that Alibaigh is wanted in nine similar cases registered in different states.
The operation was executed by a team led by PI Vijaykumar Chodankar and PSI Saheen Shetye, along with constables Minesh Naik, Suresh Naik, Ermiya Guraiya Balbhadra, and driver Vikas Naik, under the supervision of SDPO Sudesh R. Naik and SP North Rahul Gupta, IPS.
