Panaji: In the bustling streets of Panaji, Goa, a storm of discontent is brewing over the ongoing Smart City project. The usually vibrant city is now marred by inefficient infrastructure work, leading key figures to voice their dissatisfaction publicly. Corporation of City of Panaji Mayor Rohit Monseratte has become the latest official to express his frustration, denouncing the quality of the work carried out by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) as simply “horrible.”
Mayor Monseratte’s criticism comes after years of delays and mismanagement, which have left both residents and travelers in a state of perpetual frustration. He highlighted the lack of proper supervision by IPSCDL, citing examples of newly laid pavers falling apart. Monseratte emphasized the need for regular monitoring, suggesting that the Smart City team conduct surveys every 10 to 15 days and deploy engineers every five days for thorough audits. This absence of oversight often shifts the burden to local authorities, who are left to address complaints and complications.
Moreover, Monseratte pointed to specific areas of neglect, such as the 18th June Road, which was initially part of the Smart City’s project scope but is now being neglected. The CCP has been actively pursuing IPSCDL officials to resolve resident and commuter grievances, pushing for a swift completion of the work to mitigate further disruptions, especially before the onset of monsoon rains.
