PONDA: Ponda Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a local panchayat member, Abhijeet Gaude of Curti-Khandepar, and six unknown individuals, following a complaint of criminal trespass, assault, and outraging the modesty of a woman.
The incident allegedly occurred on the evening of June 8, 2025, at the complainant’s residence in Keriyem, Khandepar.
The complaint was lodged by Miss Greta Regina Gomes, a resident of H.No. 556, Keriyem, Khandepar, Ponda, at 2:59 AM on June 9, 2025, at Ponda Police Station (Cr. No. 85/2025).
According to the complaint, on June 8, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, Abhijeet Gaude and six other unknown persons formed an unlawful assembly outside Gomes’s house.
It is alleged that they criminally trespassed into her courtyard by breaking the fencing wire, purportedly while under the influence of alcohol.
The complainant further stated that Abhijeet Gaude verbally abused her and her three sisters with offensive language.
He is also accused of physically assaulting Miss Gomes by using criminal force, pushing her left shoulder, touching her left breast, and kicking her left leg, with the alleged intent to outrage her modesty.
Additionally, the complaint states that Gaude abused the complainant’s father in “filthy language” and threatened him against filing a police complaint.
The Ponda Police have registered the case under sections 189(3) (Threat of injury to public servant), 329(3) (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt to extort property, or to constrain to an illegal act), 74 (Public servant having legal duty to act or refrain from acting), 79 (Acts done by group of persons with common intention), 351(1) (Assault or criminal force to women with intent to outrage her modesty), and 352 (Assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) of the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway, police officials confirmed. The incident highlights concerns regarding public conduct and safety, particularly involving elected local representatives.
