Bambolim: Under mounting public pressure and intervention by Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar, the Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim Village Panchayat has issued a stop-work order to M/s Worldwide Resorts & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. for allegedly carrying out illegal hill-cutting and destruction of a natural aquifer in the ecologically sensitive Bambolim area.
The Panchayat, in an official communication dated May 2, 2025 (Ref. No. VP/CBT/2025-26/189), confirmed that the stop notice had already been issued to the company. The matter was placed before the Panchayat during its meeting on May 9, where members unanimously ratified the action.
The stop-work notice comes in response to a letter submitted by MLA Viresh Borkar on April 28 and officially recorded on April 30. In his social media post on Monday, Borkar welcomed the action and questioned whether Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant would now hold the culprits accountable.
Local residents and environmental activists have repeatedly flagged concerns about unchecked land degradation in Bambolim, alleging that the development activities threaten vital natural resources and violate environmental norms.
Despite the Panchayat’s action, environmental groups stress that a stop-work order is only the first step. They have called for criminal proceedings against those responsible, including company officials and any government officers who may have failed in their duty.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Chief Minister’s Office.
