CANDOLIM: Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing the High Court’s directive regarding the removal of illegal constructions obstructing traffic.
Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Candolim Panchayat Ghar and hall, Godinho emphasized that while the government will assist Goans, it will take strict action against structures built too close to roads, particularly those obstructing traffic flow.
“With the High Court order, whatever structures are on the roads will have to be removed. We have observed that people have built structures indiscriminately. There has to be a system in place. While the government will extend help to Goans, those structures that are too close to the roads and block traffic must be removed,” said Godinho.
He pointed out the importance of maintaining order in construction practices across the state and highlighted that Candolim, a prime tourism destination, and the Calangute-Candolim belt are critical to Goa’s tourism sector. The Minister urged local residents to actively contribute to keeping the coastal belt clean and organized to preserve its appeal to both tourists and locals.
On the development front, Godinho provided an update on the region’s infrastructure improvements, assuring that the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in Candolim would be completed by June. This project is expected to enhance the sanitation infrastructure in the area.
Godinho also took the opportunity to highlight the progress made in enhancing local governance infrastructure. Since he assumed office, the Ministry of Panchayats has constructed over 35 new Panchayat Ghars, with several more undergoing renovation to provide better services to local communities.
In his remarks, the Minister stressed that a systematic approach to development was essential to maintaining the quality of life for residents while safeguarding Goa’s cultural and environmental assets.
