Margao: Pankaj Naik advanced to the next round of the men’s singles category in the ongoing BPS All-Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023 at Margao on Tuesday.
Naik overcame Rajesh Bundela (6-0), Anurag Agrawal defeated Sandesh Satardekar (6-1), and Nehal Shaikh beat Anup Sardesai (6-2) in the men’s singles event of the state-level ranking tournament.
In the boys under-14 category, Darsh Pai and Taroun Salgaonkar had easy outings against their rivals Arion Rodrigues and Ashton Mario Lobo, respectively, winning their matches without allowing the opponent to win a single game.
Sairaj Narvenkar and Ethan Luis de Ataide overcame a spirited fight against their opponents Alec Cris Barreto and Avanish Nitin Pillankar to win their respective matches (6-4), even as
Shashwat Mathiyan defeated Devaansh P Naik (6-1) in the same category.
In the tournament’s girls’ under-14 event, Tvisha Sardesai beat Ahana Kumar (6-1), while Avni Lotlikar took her match against Bhaavya Bhoomkar to the wire, matching her opponent game by game before eventually losing to the latter in a tie-breaker.
In all, 126 tennis players have registered to participate in the BPS All-Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023, which has been organised jointly by the prestigious BPS Sports Club in Margao and the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA). The total prize money for winners of the various categories in the tournament is Rs. 70,000.
