PANAJI: The para-teachers from Goa in a protest have demanded that they be regularised in their service.
“We will be here until our demands are met. We want our demands fulfilled now and not next year. ,” All Goa Para Teachers Association President said
The teachers have been working on a contract basis for the last 10-12 years.
Para-teachers are employed under the Goa Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan on an annual contract basis and are employed in government primary schools. They have been in service for the past 15 years and there are around 133 such teachers.
Para-teachers are involved in assisting government primary teachers, especially, in teaching English, as the regional language teachers may lack English language skills.
Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had asked the agitating teachers to approach the Court if they feel that injustice is meted out to them, and that government, without any objection, will abide by the court order.
“Our Recruitment Rules (RR) do not permit us to regularise untrained and non-qualified teachers. The government sees no solution except for that they approach the court for certain directives to government,” he had said.
