VASCO: In a significant gesture under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) handed over a brand-new school bus to Infant Jesus Academy School in Velsao on Tuesday. The bus, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakhs, was formally handed over by PPL’s Goa Unit Head, Nilesh Dessai, during the school’s Annual Day celebration.
Speaking at the event, Dessai emphasized PPL’s commitment to supporting the community through initiatives in health and education. “As part of our CSR activities, we focus on addressing the needs of the society where we operate. This new school bus was a crucial requirement for the institution, and we’re proud to support Infant Jesus Academy in their mission to provide quality education. We are deeply connected to the Velsao village and are glad to contribute to its development,” said Dessai.
The school’s principal, Seby Braganza, expressed immense gratitude for the much-needed support. “For the past three years, we have been planning to purchase a second-hand bus but couldn’t due to lack of funds. Our existing Bal Rath buses, provided by the government, are over 14 years old and frequently break down, leading to significant maintenance costs. Despite multiple appeals to the government for assistance, nothing materialized. When PPL initially mentioned the possibility of a new bus under CSR, we didn’t think it would be feasible. However, their confirmation came as a joyful surprise,” Braganza shared.
The principal highlighted the difficulties the school faced in maintaining old buses and expressed heartfelt thanks to PPL for stepping in to address their transportation needs.
The donation of the new school bus is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges for students and enhance the overall educational experience at Infant Jesus Academy.
