Paris: Swapnil Kusale clinched India’s third medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday. A railway ticket collector, Kusale clinched bronze in Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event with a score of 451.4.
The 29-year-old from Kambalwadi village near Kolhapur in Maharashtra has been competing in international events since 2012 but he had to wait another 12 years to make his Olympics debut at the Paris Games.
Kusale had finished seventh, having shot 198 (99, 99) in kneeling position, 197 (98, 99) in prone and 195 (98, 97) in standing position as top eight shooters in a field of 44 made it to the final round.
Kusale finished with an overall score of 590 (38x), while Tomar accumulated 589 (33x) with shots of 197 (98, 99) in kneeling position, 199 (100, 990) in prone and 193 (95, 98) in standing position.
In the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, each shooter aim in three different positions comprising 15 shots each – Kneeling, prone and standing. In the final there are three series comprising five shots each in kneeling position (maximum of 200 seconds for each series). After a break, shooers aimed in the prone position comprising three series of five shots each but with a time limit of 150 seconds per series. The final is the standing position – two series of five shots each with a time limit of 250 seconds for each series.
This is India’s third medal at the 33rd Summer Games, after Manu Bhaker won bronze in both 10m air pistol for women and mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh.
