CANACONA: Thousands of Catholics in Canacona walked with devotional faith taking out its annual procession of Our Lady of Fatima in various parishes of Canacona deanery on Sunday.
Including Agonda Parish, masses were celebrated in the Churches before parishes took part in the longest procession taking along the statue of Our Lady of Fatima mounted on decorated carriages.
The village streets were decorated and each of the ‘Somudai’ held Stations where special petitions pertaining to various sections of the society residing in the areas were invoked for the Blessing of Our Lady of Fatima. Many non-believers lighted candles and came out in large numbers to venerate the Statue and seek blessings of Our Lady of Fatima passing through their locality.
Parishioners participating in the procession holding Rosary beads in their hands recited all four categories of Mysteries (The Joyful, The Luminous, The Sorrowful and the Glorious) and also sang hymns dedicated to Mother Mary with great faith and compassion.
The procession passed through non-illuminated streets of the village, and lanterns (with Candles) earlier facilitated by PPC were lit as the dark dawned in the middle of the procession.
At Agonda parish, the procession with the participation of parish present Fr. Patrick Luis, Asstt. PP Fr. Baltazar Fernandes and Fr. Octaviano Da Cunha and assisted by Confraria members started at around 4.30 in the evening, reached back to the church only after 9 pm in the night after walking around 8 km through the village’s internal streets. Blessings were delivered in the church, while parishioners lined up to kiss the statue of our Lady of Fatima kept in the church.
The Parishioners of St. Theresa of Jesus Church, Chaudi also held its annual devotional walking procession of Our Lady of Fatima and held a mass at Tarir near Rajbag. The procession earlier began covering Ponsulem, Bollo, and Xingallem and later arrived at the Church where priests accorded blessings to the faithful.
