PANAJI: BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade asked its leaders to abstain from making any statements in the media regarding tickets for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, stating that the media is not the platform through which one can claim a party ticket.
Tanavade was addressing the press conference after the BJP State Bearers meeting.
According to Tanavade, the selection procedure will start in January. He brought up the fact that the party has an internal procedure for choosing candidates.
“It is possible to apply for a party ticket, but not through the media. If it’s not for the Zilla Panchayat election, even I am not permitted to offer a party ticket,” said Tanavade.
Tanavade said that with elections likely to take place in March-April, the process to select the candidates will begin in January.
“The names of the candidates would be declared once election dates are announced,” he said.
He said that for the upcoming LS polls, the party intends to increase its vote share, which was 51 per cent in 2019.
“In a democracy, everyone has a right to ask for a party ticket but just by making claims before the media or press, one won’t get a ticket. The tickets are decided by the party’s parliamentary board,” he said, referring to recent statements by some senior BJP leaders.
Tanavade also said that he is pleased with the increase in the vote share of BJP in Telangana, Mizoram.
“The assurance of the Modi government’s commitment stands as the sole guarantee that has proven effective and will continue to do so,” Tanavade said. “The win in BJP shows that people want progress.”
