PANAJI: While reacting to the public claims made by two ex BJP MLAs for candidature in North Goa Lok Sabha constituency, Union Minister and North Goa Lok Sabha MP Shripad Naik said that there is a well set process in BJP to decide candidates and ultimately party will decide who will contest elections on BJP ticket.
“Anyone can claim ticket, Make your claim on the appropriate platform. Regarding the statements made by some in public, I have nothing to say. Everyone is aware of the procedure used to choose candidates for the Lok Sabha elections,” said Naik.
He further said that it seems a little strange to me bu after two months, the procedure will begin, and the candidate will be chosen by the party.
Naik said that he was a senior BJP leader and the decision about his candidature will be taken by the party’s central leadership, which will also review his performance as a parliamentarian.
Sopte, who lost the Mandrem seat in 2022 assembly polls, is not the first former MLA to stake claim for the party ticket. A few months back, former minister Dilip Parulekar had stated that he was ready to contest Lok Sabha elections if a ticket was offered to him.
Parulekar who was denied renomination by the party in the last assembly polls had claimed that he has been offered a bigger role in the party organisation.
