Pernem: Mopa Airport Police have registered a case against a passenger for allegedly smoking inside the lavatory of an aircraft during a Delhi–Goa flight, thereby endangering the safety of passengers and crew.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 7, 2026, following a complaint filed by Preetam Malvankar, Manager Security of Akasa Air at Manohar International Airport, Mopa.
The accused, identified as Ashish, a resident of New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, was travelling from Delhi to Goa on Akasa Air flight QP-1625. During the flight, he was allegedly found smoking a beedi inside the aircraft lavatory and was also in possession of a lighter.
Police stated that the act posed a serious threat to the safety of the aircraft as well as the passengers and crew members on board. A case has been registered under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3(1)(C) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.
The accused has been issued a notice under Section 35(3) of BNS. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Viraj Sawant of Mopa Airport Police Station.
