PERNEM: Pernem police have registered a case against a 24-year-old driver after a pedestrian succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident on NH 66 at Dhargal.
According to police, the accident occurred on August 30, 2025, at around 3.15 pm near Kaloji Wines, Dhargal. The accused, identified as Mashayikh Shaikh, resident of Margao, was driving a Tata Punch (GA-08-AA-5733) towards Pernem when he allegedly drove rashly and knocked down a pedestrian crossing the road.
The victim, Gauresh Dhargalkar (33), a native of Dhargal currently residing in Ponda, sustained serious head and body injuries. He was admitted to GMC Bambolim, where he succumbed on September 1 while undergoing treatment in the ICU.
Following an enquiry, Pernem Police registered an offence under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused driver. The case was lodged on the complaint of ASI Abhay Palyekar of Pernem Police Station.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Pravin Shimepuruskar.
