Old Goa: A 39-year-old pedestrian lost his life after being hit by a car near the railway bridge at Corlim, Tiswadi, on Monday morning.
According to Old Goa Police, the incident occurred at around 6.45 am when the driver of a Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (Reg. No. GA07N1800) was proceeding from Panaji towards Banastari and allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner.
The car reportedly struck the pedestrian, identified as Manoj Kankonkar, a resident of Corlim, who was walking by the roadside.
Kankonkar sustained serious injuries in the collision and was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Based on a complaint lodged by Head Constable Chatur Sawant of Old Goa Police Station, an offence has been registered under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the driver.
Police said further investigation is being carried out by HC Chatur Sawant.
