Old Goa: A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car near the railway bridge at Corlim, Tiswadi.
According to Old Goa Police, the incident occurred around 6:45 am on October 20 when the accused driver, identified as Hemant Khot (43), a government servant residing at Dulapli, allegedly drove his Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (Reg. No. GA07 N 1800) in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Panaji towards Banastari.
When the vehicle reached near the railway bridge, it reportedly knocked down pedestrian Manoj Kankonkar (40), a resident of Corlim, who was walking along the roadside.
Kankonkar sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Old Goa Police registered an offence under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on a complaint filed by Head Constable Chatur Basu Sawant. Further investigation is underway.
