NEW VADDEM: In a shocking hit-and-run incident, a pedestrian sustained injuries after being struck by a speeding vehicle at New Vaddem.
The Vasco Police have registered a case against the accused driver, who fled the scene without offering medical assistance to the victim.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at around 8:40 PM on the slope leading towards the New Vaddem residential area. The accused, identified as Romeo Carvalho, a resident of New Vaddem, was driving a WagonR car in a rash and negligent manner, endangering public safety. While proceeding from GSL Vaddem towards New Vaddem, Carvalho allegedly hit pedestrian Manoj Sharma, who was walking on the left side of the road.
Following the collision, the driver reportedly fled the scene with the vehicle, failing to provide medical aid or inform the authorities about the accident. As a result, Sharma fell to the ground and suffered injuries.
Upon receiving the complaint from Head Constable Suresh Dassar (HCB No. 4642) of Vasco Police Station, an offence was registered against Carvalho under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 134(a) & (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Vasco Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with Head Constable Suresh Dassar leading the case. Further action is expected as authorities work towards identifying and apprehending the accused driver.
Residents of the area have expressed concerns over increasing reckless driving incidents and have urged authorities to take strict measures to ensure road safety.
