QUEPEMv A tragic hit-and-run incident in Adnem, Quepem, claimed the life of a woman pedestrian after she was struck by a speeding bus.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 7, 2025, at around 9:30 AM, when the accused, Gangesh Vaiz, a resident of Cola, Canacona, was driving a bus from Canacona towards Sanguem. While passing through Gudiwada, Adnem, the driver allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, fatally hitting Revati Gaonkar, a local resident of Adnem.
The driver fled the scene with the bus, failing to provide any medical assistance to the victim or alert the police. Revati Gaonkar sustained grievous injuries and was declared dead.
Her body was later sent for postmortem at South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
The autopsy, conducted by a police surgeon, confirmed the cause of death as “damage to head and chest consequent to blunt force impact.” Samples have been preserved for serology and DNA profiling.
The deceased’s body was handed over to her family for final rites.
The case has been registered upon the state complaint of ASI Sandeep Velip of Quepem Police Station. PSI Yogesh Gaonkar is currently investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver and vehicle.
