DABOLIM: In a fatal road accident on Monday evening, a pedestrian identified as Hare Krishna Roy, a native of Bihar and resident of Panjim, was killed after being crushed under a speeding truck near the Dabolim Airport junction at Chicalim.
According to sources, Roy, who worked as a security guard in Panjim, had travelled to Vasco to meet a group of acquaintances who were supposed to accompany him on a train journey back to his native village in Bihar later in the day . The accident occurred while he was crossing the road near the airport.
Eyewitnesses said the truck, which was reportedly speeding from the port side towards Verna, struck Roy and dragged him for several meters, resulting in his death on the spot. The driver attempted to flee the scene with the trucks but was intercepted by locals at Dabolim and handed over to the police.
Vasco police rushed to the site and have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is underway.
